Who are we?
Updated to supply the needs of an Internet-savvy community, our 125-year-old institution is a privately-funded library and resource centre. The new Fraser-Hickson Centre provides reading, cultural and information services for all ages and interests, primarily in English and French, but also in a dozen other languages.
Rich in traditional and electronic content
Our collections comprise over 70,000 hard copy books, articles, documents, CDs, DVDs, newspapers and magazines; as well as e-books and other electronic media. Our electronic catalogue will allow selection, reservation and renewal from home.
Connected technically and functionally
The Centre will be a Wi-Fi environment for laptop use, equipped with individual computer-work stations, with links to a broad spectrum of career opportunity, personal development, reference and general interest websites.
Equipped for children, teens and adults
The Centre will continue to be a community hub: the “go to” place for each stage of life. With separate areas for children, teens and adults, the centre provides story time, computer games, a coffee shop, and collections of material for enjoyment, learning and growth. Whether you want to write a résumé, find advice on parenting, learn how to fix a car, choose the best electric drill, or just need a place to read or connect with friends, the Centre has the resources to help.
The Centre will be wheelchair accessible.
Serving community interests and needs
The Centre will continue to provide programs and services that respond to the diverse interests of the Montreal community. These include cultural performances, educational experiences, literacy development, job search assistance, programs for seniors, eco-info, and home delivery service for shut-ins.
Easy to get to
The centre will occupy the magnificent lower level of Trinity Memorial Church. Located at Sherbrooke West and Marlowe in NDG, the Centre will be just a short walk from the Vendôme Metro and close to bus routes, suburban trains, the Décarie expressway, seniors’ residences, Queen Elizabeth Health Centre, and the MUHC site.
Ready to go
This project is now “shovel ready”. With our drawings and specs ready and the building permit issued, work will begin as soon as the requested infrastructure support grant is confirmed.
